The 7 mm Remington Magnum calibre

The 7 mm Remington Magnum cartridge was introduced commercially in 1962 at the same time as the Remington Model 700 rifle. The 7 mm Remington Magnum is part of the "belted magnum" family directly derived from the venerable .375 H&H Magnum. The initial aim of the .300 H&H and 375 H&H "belted magnum" concept was for the belt to provide precise feed control, while easing cartridge extraction. More reliable cartridge extraction is a desirable feature when hunting dangerous game, which would be cause for concern when a fast follow-up shot was required. The 7 mm Remington Magnum is based on the 458 Winchester Magnum case, necked-in to hold a .284 inch (7.21 mm) bullet. The accuracy and effectiveness of the 7 mm Remington Magnum’s flat trajectory in mountain terrain and at long range make it a reference standard. Winchester offers six very high performance loads for this remarkable calibre whose bullet weights range from 9.07 grams (140 grains) to 11.34 grams (175 grains).
